BPS and RPS reaffirm commitment to AllTrials petition

The British Pharmacological Society (BPS) and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) reaffirm our ongoing and unequivocal commitment to the principles of openness and transparency in the discovery and development of new medicines. This commitment includes our support for the AllTrials petition, which our organisations signed earlier in 2013.
We welcome the publication of ‘All trials registered. All trials reported’ by the AllTrials campaign. The aims of the document reflect the desire of both organisations to identify practical solutions that ensure research is conducted transparently and openly.
As professional organisations representing a combined membership of over 40,000, we have a unique role to play to ensure that their insights and expertise are taken into account during the development of standards for transparency. We are also well-placed to identify and share best practice in transparency through our various scientific meetings, publications and educational activities.
We are committed to working productively and proactively with the regulators of research to support their development of standards. We intend to explore with them, and other partners, how professional organisations like BPS and RPS can contribute to achieving transparency in ways that benefit openness in research and patient care.
