Approval has been granted to sell combination blood thinner DuoPlavin/DuoCover, it has been confirmed.
The drug, which is manufactured by French drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis and New York-based company Bristol-Myers Squibb Co, will be used to treat blood clots in patients with heart conditions.
In a joint statement released by the two companies, they said the drug combines aspirin and the blood thinner Plavix, the world’s second best-selling drug.

They added the approval to sell the drug in Europe will ease the daily pill burden for patients.
But according to a spokeswoman for Bristol-Myers, there are currently no plans to introduce the drug to the US market.
