BNF to supply NHS Evidence

teaser

The British National Formulary (BNF) is to supply information on drug prescribing for a new online “one-stop-shop” of medical information for health professionals, NHS Evidence.

The drug reference information contained in the BNF is to play a major role in the new portal, due to be launched by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) in April 2009.

Currently, basic drug reference information is provided for the NHS in England via the Department of Health’s contract with the BNF and British National Formulary for Children (BNFC).

The BNF publications are published jointly by the BMJ Group, Royal Pharmaceutical Society Publishing and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

Also available online, the BNF publications provide independent and authoritative information about the use of medicines and are a key point of reference for doctors, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.

NHS Evidence said it plans to work in partnership with the BNF to ensure delivery of its information via the internet as the demand for digital information increases.
