British Pharmacopoeia 2008 released as an eBook

teaser

The British Pharmacopoeia (BP) 2008 is for the first time being released as an eBook, becoming the first of its type in the world to do so.

The eBook format makes the full text of the publication available for those who need to reference the BP on the move or when they are unable to access their hard copy immediately.

It can be downloaded to most handset devices and contains the full contents of the BP (including diagrams and charts); it is fully updated reflecting the latest developments in UK standards for medicine, and it also grants the user access to the BP eBook platform from any desktop where they can download the content they need as eb20 files, in a PDF-style display.

The BP 2008 eBook is exclusively available to those who have already purchased the hard copy of the British Pharmacopoeia.

All medicinal and pharmaceutical manufacturers are being advised to purchase their copy of the BP 2008 immediately to ensure they have the appropriate systems and checks in place before the standards become legal requirements on 1 January next year.

The BP 2008 is the authoritative collection of standards for UK medicinal substances and the official source of UK pharmaceutical quality standards.

Published by The Stationery Office (TSO) on behalf of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the British Pharmacopoeia contains approximately 3100 monographs and provides legally-enforceable standards to which all medicinal products supplied to or sold into the UK must meet to protect public health.

These standards are also used in more than 100 countries worldwide.

In addition to increasing the number of national standards, the British Pharmacopoeia 2008 supports regulatory work for herbal and complementary medicines.

New monographs for traditional herbal medicinal products are added in this new edition. Standards for widely used unlicensed formulations have also been introduced along with further guidance on the preparation of these products.

The BP 2008 also includes, for the first time, colour change intervals for common indicators which are printed in colour. All European Pharmacopoeia material up to and including Supplement 5.8 is integrated into the text of the BP 2008

“The British Pharmacopoeia is now available as an eBook and is the first internationally-recognised pharmacopoeia to be reproduced in full as an eBook. This innovative version retains identical content to the printed version whilst offering complete portability.  The eBook is an excellent choice of format for such a large reference work.  It offers a wealth of useful features including extensive hyperlinking, autoscrolling, highlighting, book marking and zoom facilities on over 6000 images, making the vital information contained within it even more accessible to those who require it,”  the British Pharmacopoeia Commission said.

Priced at £398 (£467.65 inc VAT), to those who have purchased the 2008 hard copy BP,  the BP eBook can be ordered online at Pharmacopoeia as well as from the TSO’s own stores and other leading bookshops, or via +44 (0) 870 243 0123.
