Pneumococcal disease is the leading vaccine-preventable cause of death worldwide in children younger than 5 years and accounts for up to 1 million deaths in children.

More than 20 abstracts being presented at the conference focus on pneumococcal serotype 19A, which is increasing in prevalence around the globe, frequently virulent, and antibiotic resistant.
