Firm offers e-training on latex allergies

A glove manufacturing company is providing educational materials aimed at healthcare professionals responsible for managing latex allergies.

A spokesman for Ansell UK said that despite modern manufacturing techniques that reduced the risk of allergic reactions, some studies indicated that up to 17% of healthcare professionals could suffer latex allergies.

Protective glove use was also increasing.

The spokesman said the “Ansell Cares” initiative aimed to stem the rise in adverse reactions by providing resources that heightened awareness and promoted best practice.

Among the educational and training materials available free online at the website were resources to help identify, prevent and treat allergies, including guest lectures by leading dermatologists on occupational contact dermatitis and hand eczema.

The site offered factsheets describing developments in natural rubber latex manufacturing that had minimised the allergen content in gloves.
