Marketing approval for fingers drug

teaser

The Food and Drug Administration has given marketing approval to a drug made by Auxilium Pharmaceuticals to treat a hand condition

Xiaflex will treat Dupuytren’s contracture, a progressive condition which constricts the fingers and causes them to bend inward.

Xiaflex is the only drug approved to treat the disease, according to Auxilium Pharmaceuticals.

The drug will be launched in late March after being shipped out earlier that month.

The drug is still awaiting approval in the European Union – where Pfizer has its marketing rights.
