During the 24th Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), the International Alliance of Dermatology Patient Organizations (IADPO) announced its official launch at the Patient Village of the Congress.
The Vancouver Resolution, outlines the intention of more than 60 dermatology patient organisations to officially work together, to bring forth the patient voice and partner with physicians and other stakeholders to improve the lives of people living with dermatological conditions. IADPO supports organisations which in turn support people living with dermatological conditions and raise awareness of the tremendous impact of these diseases and conditions on individuals and family units. IADPO is aiming to provide advocacy support where necessary; so that patients living with skin ailments can access the care and treatments they need, but also provide training, education and opportunities to share resources.
“In this era of increasingly informed and engaged patients, physicians who understand and work with patients as partners, deliver superior care to their patients.” said Christine Janus, Director General of the newly established IADPO. “Launching our organisation during the EADV Congress was a natural choice, as EADV is showing true patient–centricity by setting up a Patient Village and holding a patient-focused session for their delegates”.
The annual Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology is the largest meeting of Dermatology and Venereology in Europe. This year, for the first time, the EADV has set up a Patient Village in the Congress area, inviting patient organisations to share their experiences and has also organised a session focused on sharing perspectives between dermatologists, patients and nurses. It is the first time that a Dermatology conference of this scale openly promotes the value of working with patients.
“This is an important day for dermatologists and skin patients around the world. Patient centricity is fast becoming a primary value or measure – for industry and decision-makers who approve treatments. The EADV stands proud of leading the way in dermatology in this area,” said Professor Erwin Tschachler, MD, President of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology.
