Europe recognises importance of rare diseases

teaser

The importance of rare diseases was highlighted by the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) in a dedicated day using the catch-phrase ‘rare but equal’ at the end of this February.

The organisation demonstrated its belief that rare diseases, orphan drugs and the health needs of affected patients are a significant part of the pharmacist role in its contribution to the EU-funded Pharmacy Education in Europe project (Pharmine).

Understanding of rare diseases was recognised as a specific competence required by hospital pharmacists and one that should be included in the curricula for specialisation in hospital pharmacy.

EAHP says on its web news that initiatives organised to increase awareness of rare conditions in Europe are featured in the Rare Disease website http://www.rarediseaseday.org/,
