Firm ready to release heart drug

Watson Pharmaceuticals has revealed that it has been given permissionto start marketing a generic version of the heart medication Toprol.

The US Food and Drug Administration approved the Corona-based company’smetoprolol succinate extended-release tablets in the 100mg and 200mgstrengths.

The drug is used to treat heart failure, angina and hypertension.

The original Toprol is made by AstraZeneca and aims to treat angina and heart failure.

Watson said in a statement it will start shipping its version this week.

The company specialises in the development, manufacturing, marketingand distribution of generic pharmaceuticals and specialised brandedpharmaceutical products focused on urology and women’s health.

It has commercial operations across the world, in both established and growing international markets.
