Health authority holds conference

NHS North West has used the Manchester Central Convention Complex to hold its first international prescribing contest.

The conference, entitled Prescribing for Success – Expansion or Evolution, was held as part of a strategy to develop the future relationship between the pharmaceutical industry and the NHS, improving it to allow joint working to benefit patients.

Public health physician June Crown, National Patient Safety Agency medical director Kevin Cleary and Sam Sherrington, who is non-medical prescribing national adviser at the National Prescribing Centre, all spoke at the conference.

NHS North West has worked on developing and implementing a training programme for prescribing based on multimedia e-learning.

The pioneering multi-professional programme, developed to aid improving the relationship between the pharmaceutical industry and the NHS, was adopted nationally in 2009.
