Health data publisher acquires intelligence firm

Health data publisher Elsevier has acquired Windhover Information – a healthcare business intelligence firm analysing and commenting on healthcare business strategy, industry dealmaking, marketplace trends and medical startups.

Brian Nairn, CEO of Elsevier Health Sciences, said the acquisition supported Elsevier’s e-health strategy to improve patient healthcare and the business of health in the pharma business intelligence market.

He said the move expanded Elsevier’s offering of products and services for pharma industry professionals by combining  technology and content to promote faster, better informed planning and management of product portfolios.

Windhover produces journals such as In Vivo and RPMReport, the Strategic Transactions Database covering healthcare industry transactions, and a series of medical-device and biopharmaceutical conferences.

The acquisition of Windhover is Elsevier’s latest in a series of investments in content, workflow tools and e-health services.

Windhover will operate within Elsevier’s Pharma Business Intelligence Unit, which includes F-D-C Reports (with products including The Pink Sheet and The Gray Sheet) and the Inteleosdrug development database.

Terms of the acquisition are not being disclosed.
