People in Ireland will now be able to access detailed information on thousands of medicines and health products online.

The Irish Medicines Board (IMB), which has authorised more than 6,000 human medicines, has added the material to its new website www.imb.ie.

The IMB said the site will carry information on the regulation of medicines and safety, legal, and licensing issues surrounding healthcare products and up to 500,000 medical devices in use throughout Europe.

Users will also be able to report suspected adverse reactions and quality defects relating to medicines and medical devices via the portal.

Pat O’Mahony, chief executive of IMB, said: “The objective of the website is to assist people to source a wide range of information quickly.

“The website is a great resource for anyone wanting to access information on any particular product. It provides information on all aspects of a medicine from when it was licensed through to its indications, usage and known side-effects.

“The site also hosts all our safety newsletters and publications which assist healthcare professionals keep abreast of the latest safety information on a host of medicines.”
