Hospital Pharmacy Europe is delighted to announce publication of the first in a series of therapeutically-focused HPE Pocket Guides, for use by clinical pharmacists, ward-based prescribers and formulary chiefs.
The first title – CINV Therapeutics – has been made possible via an unrestricted educational grant from a major pharmaceutical company and aims to improve pharmacist knowledge of up-to-date pharmacological treatments in the area of Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting.
Presented as a 115mm x 165mm title, the CINV Therapeutics Pocket Guide provides an overview of the treatment of CINV, prescribing and dosing information for the main therapeutic classes, summaries of current EU/International clinical guidance, and tables of drug-drug interactions and off-label/investigational drug usage. Fully tabbed pages and pocket-sized format are designed for easy reference during clinical practice.
Mr Bruce Burnett, Guest Editor of the HPE CINV Pocket Guide, Consultant Pharmacist and former VP of the British Oncology Pharmacy Association (BOPA) said of the initiative:
“…… a pocket guide has such great value. A single repository of information about practice guidelines, pharmacology, and patient factors which can influence therapy choice as well as practical advice on administration options will prove useful not just in terms of patient management but also formulary management. That it is pocket-size, means that it can be used in many settings without significantly adding to the physical information sources we carry when interacting with patients. Equally we can add our own notes based on experience, local availability and local guidance. Managing CINV which remains uncontrolled for any reason has significant cost, in terms of patient, staffing and drugs. Any tool which helps minimise such costs is a welcome addition to our armament and, when that benefits patients as well, everyone gains.”
