RGU pharmacy course is joint best in UK

teaser

Pharmacy education at Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen has been hailed joint best in the UK in an official government ranking.
99% of students of the Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) course have said they are satisfied with its quality. This places the Scottish university joint highest with Queen’s University, Belfast and ahead of 27 other UK pharmacy courses.
The statistics have been published in Unistats – the UK Government’s official online comparison site for higher education institutions. The ranking includes official data on each university and college’s satisfaction scores in the National Student Survey, jobs and salaries after study and professional accreditation.
Other results contributing to the RGU course’s high standing are:
  • 100% of students going on to work or further study six months after completing the course
  • Graduates commanding a salary in the high pay bracket (an average of £21,000 just six months after completing the course)
  • The course’s professional accreditation with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
Taught within RGU’s School of Pharmacy and Life Sciences, the MPharm is a masters level programme taught over a condensed four years. The role of the modern pharmacist has grown significantly in recent years, and the course prepares students for entry into the profession through a combination of teaching, laboratory work and clinical placements.
The School of Pharmacy’s fully-equipped chemistry and formulation laboratories, in addition to its sterile products manufacturing facility, allows students to learn the fundamental techniques a pharmacist needs.
Head of the School of Pharmacy and Life Sciences at RGU, Professor Don Cairns said: “This is a great result for the School and RGU and reflects all the hard work of the staff who deliver the MPharm. The School is currently preparing to move to the new building at Garthdee where facilities will be even better so I look forward to more accolades of this type.”
The School of Pharmacy will move to the Garthdee campus in 2013 as part of the university’s £170 million ‘Masterplan’ campus development project.
