Unique stent offers flexibility

teaser

A new type of coronary stent has been launched on to the European market which claims to provide a “unique” flexibility in its delivery, and extremely reliable scaffolding once in situ.

The Presillion Cobalt Chromium coronary stent is a bare metal stent which is flexible in the unexpanded configuration, and supports the vessel while conforming to its curvature in the expanded configuration.

The company behind the development, Medinol, says that recent research recognised the value of bare metal stents and the growing versatility of treatments of complex coronary artery disease.

One independent cardiologist who has already tested it vouches for its efficacy.

“It had a very smooth delivery and the final angiogram showed the excellent conformability and scaffolding of the stent to the vessel walls,” said Professor Eberhard Grube, Chief of Cardiology at Siegburg Heart Centre, Germany.

The Presillion’s unique stent design includes an adaptive closed cell architecture that is capable of differential lengthening. It is available in lengths ranging from 8-33mm and in diameter sizes from 2.5-4mm.

Medinol partnered with the Cordis Corporation, a Johnson and Johnson company, last year, and will be distributing the Presillion globally.
