A German drug maker’s earnings reached 56.7 million euro (£50.4 million) for the fourth quarter of last year, up from a 280 million euro loss in 2008.
Darmstadt-based Merck said its revenue for last year was 7.7 billion euro and the company expects revenue for 2010 to rise between 3% and 7%. Merck’s results a year ago saw charges related to a divestment.
Revenue for the last quarter, the October-December period, rose by nearly 6% to more than two billion euro, an increase from 1.92 billion euro in 2008.
The firm also makes liquid crystal displays for televisions and computer monitors.
