The United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association (UKCPA) welcomes the Scottish Government’s vision for the future of pharmaceutical care in Scotland, as laid out in “Prescription for Excellence: A vision and action plan for the right pharmaceutical care through integrated partnerships and innovation”.
This document describes innovative plans to fully utilise the clinical potential of all pharmacists in managing patients’ drug treatment and prescribing as required. These plans echo some of the long-held aspirations of UKCPA, and have the potential to bring benefits to patients and the NHS in Scotland. They offer the opportunity to break down existing barriers between community and hospital pharmacy sectors, and place the clinical pharmacist as the experts in the clinical use of medicines.
The UKCPA looks forward to working with the Scottish pharmacy community and supporting members and potential new members in making this exciting development happen.
