WHO “still confident in Tamiflu”

teaser

The five Tamiflu-resistant swine flu cases in Britain and four in the US have not dented the World Health Organization’s confidence in the drug, according to a spokesman.

WHO flu chief Dr Keiji Fukuda says that the treatment remains highly effective against the vast majority of H1N1 cases, and that the patients for whom it did not work had severely weakened immune systems.

The drug is made by Roche, and when taken within two days of experiencing symptoms helps to stop the flu virus from spreading inside the body.
